To enable it we have to use mdutil /Volumes/shane -i on which works until you log off and back in and its disabled again.
We share some network shares from a Server 2012 machine to a load of macs This works fine and they can browse them and work from them with no issues.. The problem we have is searching over them Because the are SMB spotlight is indexing is disabled by default on the mac.
I have tried a third party app (Easy Find) but because the drive has around 4TB of data it takes forever to search it Without buying a Mac and setting that up as a mac server has anyone found a way to always search SMB network shares from a mac without having to re-index each time you log back in?.
